ANNA PIGKOU
PSYCHIATRIST
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH (As of April 2025)

Anna Pigkou is a psychiatrist, member of the New Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis and the World Association of Psychoanalysis. She was born in Athens, studied music and graduated from the Medical School of the University of Patras. She specialised in Psychiatry at the State Hospital of Leros, at the General Hospital “Evangelismos” and at the Psychiatric Clinic of the “Aeginiteion” University Hospital. At the same time, she started her psychoanalytic formation at the Athenian Academy of Clinical Studies and at the Freudian Field Institute.
She worked as a psychiatrist at the Research University Institute of Mental Health, at the Mutual Health Fund of the Agricultural Bank of Greece Personnel, at the Eating Disorders Unit of the “Aeginiteion” University Hospital, at the Endocrine Unit of the “Evgenideion” University Hospital, the Autism SOS Centre, the Mental Health Unit of the “Evgenideion” University Hospital, the Myrtillo Home Supported Living Shelter, the Myrtillo Cafe Social Cooperative Enterprise, and METAdrasi-Action for Migration and Development. Since 2003 she has been practicing as a private psychiatrist-psychoanalyst and since 2022 she has been working as a psychiatrist at the Women’s Detention Centre of Eleonas in Thebes.
In 2019 she cofounded CEREDA-EYRÉKA (Centre d’Études et de Recherches sur l’Enfant dans le Discours Analytique: Centre for the Study and Research on the Child in the Context of Psychoanalytic Discourse) with the psychologist-psychoanalyst Eleni Koukouli. She participates and intervenes in Greek and international conferences, writes articles and collaborates in the translation of books, including The Autistic and his Voice, by Jean-Claude Maleval, The Other Clinical Practice, Psychoanalysis and Therapy in the Institution, by Alfredo Zenoni, Glenn Gould or the Necessary Invention, by the Strasbourg Circle, The Seminars of Jacques Lacan. Book VIII: The Transference, The Seminars of Jacques Lacan. Book X: Anxiety, The Function and Field of Speech and Language in Psychoanalysis, by Jacques Lacan, Theory of Psychoanalytic Therapy, by Jacques-Alain Miller, Lacan and Psychoanalysis, by Jacques-Alain Miller, Freud, by René Major & Chantal Talagrand, and Beyond the Conscious: An Illustrated History of Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis, by Pierre Morel, Jean-Pierre Bourgeron, Elisabeth Roudinesco. She is also a member of the editorial committee of the Greek journal I Psychanalysi [Psychoanalysis].
For several years, she has been collaborating with The Hellenic Society for the Advancement of Psychiatry and Related Sciences (ELEPSYSEP-HSAPRS) in the organization of scientific and psychoanalytic events, seminars and conferences, including the musical event “Glenn Gould, or the Necessary Invention” at the Parnassos Literary Society venue.
